Dear Friends,

September, 2009
It has been a long time since I have had a chance to see or talk to many of you. Too long!

OPEN HOUSE
Lyne and I are holding a September open house before my paintings start traveling south to Seattle for my October show. We hope you will be able to come by next Sunday September 6 between 1 – 6 p.m. here in New Westminster. It will be a small afternoon party with wine and cheese and various dips and appetizers – and a chance to visit and converse about life, good times and art.

You will find directions and a map link on my website. Link to directions

Please RSVP by e‐mail if you think you may be able to come.

GALLERY 110 – SEATTLE : PAINTINGS OF THE SEA
You are invited to an exhibition at Gallery 110 – Seattle, titled Paintings of the Sea. This show might have been more accurately (and prosaically) titled Works from the Last Three Years. It includes a few works from the Paintings of the Sun, Paris in Winter and other series done the last three years.

The exhibit is predominately landscapes involving water, such as the image above. It will include Nocturnes – the Burrard Inlet at twilight and beyond, Paintings of the Wind: Nitinaht Lake and the kite-boards glimpsed through old growth forest, and new works of my Ships Mountains & the Sea series that depict the massive freighters off of Spanish Banks and the sea beyond.

The preview party or vernissage (wine & cheese) is Wednesday evening, September 30, 2009. Let me know if you are planning to come, particularly if you are coming in to Seattle from out of town. The opening is aligned with the “First Thursday” when all galleries in Seattle are open. On a dry evening it will be like Carnival, with large groups of art-admiring crowds walking throughout the downtown area.

I will be in Seattle during that week between Tuesday-Sunday. I’d love to get together for coffee or a meal if you have time. I’ll also be in Seattle on the weekend of October 17 & 18 and Saturday October 24th. And if you cannot come to Seattle, I hope you will have a chance to view the works on the Gallery 110 website: (link)

SUMMER AT TAKU AND BAMFIELD

Lyne and I had two wonderful trips to beautiful Vancouver Island this summer:  We just returned from our annual week at Taku Resort on Quadra Island. We stayed again at the Beach House. The view from there is one of the loveliest in British Columbia and the inspiration for my series View(s) from the Beach House.

We traveled to Bamfield in July for a Music Festival and romantic long weekend by the ocean. We heard the airst kelp‐horn quintet played by the Canadian Brass Group True North (right).

PUBLICATION NEWS
This month I was honored by an article in Canadian Medical Association Journal (CMAJ) by J. Lynn Fraser about my Kindertotentanz series. The article is very well written. It was two years in the planning and I am very grateful for both Ms. Fraser’s persistence and her wordcraft.

Future plans: I will be showing a group of small watercolors in the Loft Gallery at Gallery 110 in March 2010. More on this in January.

For now, wishing you the best and looking forward to seeing you soon, David.
