A solemn and moving musical interlude – a recognition of the many, many victims of these ‘Bad Guys’ – opened the exhibition Bad Guys II – Explorations of the Face of Evil. The Bach D-Minor Suite for unaccompanied cello, written by Bach in grief over his wife’s unexpected death, was played by Claire Dresselhuis, a star student of the University of Victoria music program. My show clearly focuses on Bad Guys – all have done terrible & evil deeds – but I felt we needed to acknowledge, respect and show empathy for those who were hurt and damaged, the victims and their loved ones.
Ms. Dresselhuis will perform the same piece and others by Bruch, Bloch & Elgar at a recital entitled: In Memoriam to the Victims of “Bad Guys” in the Visual Space Gallery at 2 pm Sunday, May 21. The recital will be followed at 3 pm by a brief artist talk about the origins and planned arch of these works. Brownies and quince bread will be served. I hope you can come.
The exhibit opened Thursday May 11 and continues through Wednesday May 24, 2017. The show was superbly installed by Theissen Art Services and looks spectacular in Yukiko Onley’s Visual Space Gallery. I am grateful that my show was featured as an Arts Editor’s choice in The Georgia Straight (Things to do – Art, May 11-18 edition, page 29). Many people have come to see the show thanks to the Georgia Straight’s nudge in my direction. The reception was a celebration and many people came. Chef Claire’s fantastic food disappeared precipitously thanks to the gracious service by the catering team.
If you have already come to see this show, thank you for taking the time and energy to look at my paintings. If not, please, come visit before the show closes at 5 pm Wednesday, May 24, 2017.
The gallery will be open noon–5 pm daily.
Plan now on enjoying my next show: 40 Views of Mount Baker- Homage to Hokusai. It is scheduled at the Visual Space Gallery in September 2017. The reception will be Saturday September 16, 2017 4-7 PM.
David:
It was good to see you again last Saturday. Your exhibition was amazing and was enjoyed by everyone I brought. Thank you for being so generous with your invitations at the last minute.
Unfortunately I will be out of town on May 21 and will not be able to attend. Hopefully there may be another opportunity.

This sound wonderful. So sorry we are so far away in Philadelphia but we wish you all success. We think of Anson and Rena often and miss them a lot!

Hi David-
What an interesting departure from your landscapes.
Is Trump featured as one of the faces of evil?
Wish we could attend from Boston. We love having your art in our home; keep up the great work.
Thanks for keeping us informed of your shows, David. Fred and I hope to catch your current installation, and will make plans for the next show as well. Fantastic work, and thanks again!
